MINI is a brand specializing in the production of the legendary and the smallest passenger car, produced for over 40 years without any major changes. Today Mini and its highly popular Cooper are produced under the auspices of BMW.

The history of the company dates back to the late 40s, when John Cooper registered the Cooper Car Company, where he began the production of compact racing cars. One of his developments - the Cooper 500 - opened the way for many athletes to race. One of his first clients was Sterling Moss himself. Driving the first Formula 2 car"By Cooper, which still had an engine in the front, sat five-time world champion Juan Manuel Fangio. In the late 1950s, when amateur riders could still be found among the winners of the competition, the first rear-engined Cooper competed on a par with such giants as Ferrari and Maserati, which at that time relied on the front engine.

The Mini car was created by the son of British racer John Cooper, Mike Cooper, and also the owner of a tuning studio named after his father. The appearance of the first model of the Mini class back in 1959u caused almost a sensation. At this time, the appearance of a small and economical car could satisfy the massive demands of consumers. This is how the legend was born - modifications of Cooper and Cooper S.

The audience received this little baby cool. And in 59th the situation was not saved even by the fact that in the standard configuration the car cost only 497 pounds, and in the De-luxe version - 537. During the first year of production, only 20 thousand cars were sold all over the world.

A year later, the Europeans "saw through" Mini (cars were delivered to many markets under the names Austin 850 and Morris 850). In 1960, 100 thousand cars were made, and in 1962, the production volume reached 200 thousand cars a year and held at this level until 1977.

During the 60s, John Cooper achieved numerous rally successes in the improved Mini Cooper. But, despite the great achievements and popularity, the production of the Mini Cooper model in 1971 was discontinued by the Navy, which by that time had already owned production for a long time. But Mini remained on the assembly line.

The Mini has become an iconic, off-class vehicle. The car was not neglected by members of the royal family, the Beatles, Peter Ustinov, Charles Aznavour, Belmondo drove the Mini, Enzo Ferrari had three of them ... The list of celebrities from among the owners of Mini takes several pages of fine print!

The same is the list of all kinds of Mini versions (there are station wagons, vans, convertibles, not to mention dozens of anniversary series marked with the letters LE - Limited Edition). The same place is occupied by the list of victories in all kinds of rallies, including the first place in the overall standings of the Monte Carlo Rally ...

Time passed, expensive and prestigious brands appeared, but these carswhether they did not lose their popularity due to their exceptional cheapness. This was used by the Austin Rover concern and produced cars, although not in very large, but quite sufficient quantities. However, the profits were tight.

The famous racer and his son Mike, however, kept the legendary name alive. To meet the growing demand for Cooper vehicles, in the 1980s they produced tuning kits and accessories that turned a production Mini into a charged Mini Cooper.

In 1990, Mini Cooper, which was then "living" under the roof of the Rover Group, withova was brought back to life. Demand for an agile little car continued unabated, and John Cooper Works continued to produce tuning kits for the engine and chassis of the timeless classic car until its end of production. These "whales" have been supplied to Mini lovers all over the world.

And the last "real" Mini was released on October 4, 2000. In total, almost five and a half million were made. Mini's life ended at 41. And it started all over again.

And the brands themselves, under which Mini cars were produced, and the factories for their production more than once transitionwhether from hand to hand. In recent years, Mini has been owned by the Rover Group. Then the Rover group came under the control of BMW, then it was sold out in parts, and the Germans gave the Rover "passenger" department for nothing. But they retained the New Mini brand. Then, on the sly, they somehow forgot about the word New ... BMW managers had been hatching plans for a long time to start production of small, but prestigious, "luxury" cars, and the Mini brand came in handy.

The revival of the legendary model began with widespread discussion in the British press. The creators of the first Mini, who were still alive, took part inin particular, the developer of the original Hydrolastic suspension, Alex Moulton, and the creator of the charged rally car, John Cooper.

They were interested in the main question - how to preserve the individuality of "Mini" and at the same time make it meet modern requirements for capacity and safety.

In May 2001, a newfangled car appeared - NewMini. A modern remake of the legendary brainchild of Alec Issigonis. Like any thing that has stepped over utility, NewMini is not a cheap pleasure. Baby prices start at 10,000 UKtheir pounds. In the "charged" version of the Mini Cooper, with a more powerful engine and sporty character, the car will cost even more. Good style is rarely cheap, and the Mini's style is beyond doubt. The new Mini has become incomparably more comfortable, faster, more economical and able to compete with other "dude" cars, first of all with the Volkswagen NewBeetle.

In 2002, the Cooper S sports modification joined the One and Cooper models. If the only 1.6-liter engine on the Mini develops 90 hp. (on One) and 115 hp. (on the Cooper), then on the Cooper S its power increased to 163 hp. In reAs a result, the Cooper S has become one of the most powerful cars in its class in the world.
