Chevrolet Motor Car was founded in 1911 by the founder of General Motors, William Durant. After leaving General Motors, he energetically set up new companies. Mainly a businessman rather than an engineer, Durant took with him a promising and interesting development before leaving General Motors.the father of the car, on the improvement of which he invited the popular racer Louis Chevrolet to work, who gave the new company his famous sonorous name.
The first model, quite successful Classic Six ("Classic Six") - a spacious five-seater sedan with a 6-cylinder engine with a capacity of 30 horsepower, with electric lighting, four doors, a convertible top, a windshield, and in addition to all this, a personal set of workers was attached instruments, was introduced in 1912. At the same time, Little Four (“Little Fourka ") with a 4-cylinder engine. But the price of the first-born - $ 2,500 - was exorbitant for the buyer, and therefore he was not successful. The then popular Ford-T cost five times cheaper.
William Durant realized that the key to success lies not in the luxury of the car, but in its simplicity and cheapness. He moved away from the production of chic models and began production of inexpensive 4-cylinder cars - the open passenger car Baby Grand ("Baby Grand") and the sporty Royal Mail ("Royal Mail"). It was on these models in 1914 that the famous Chevrolet logo - a bow tie - appeared for the first time.
1916 yearon their basis, the Chevrolet-490 was created (that was its original price), which brought the company resounding fame. These cheap but reliable cars became as popular as the Fords. They were powered by 2.8-liter 4-cylinder engines. The car was so successful that it was produced until 1922, and gave birth to the equally famous "Superior" model, which existed until 1927. The Chevrolet-490 had a simple 3-speed gearbox, both rigid axles were suspended from springs. As in the "Fords", here everything was simplified to the limit, but these cars had eelectric headlights and a starter, which was then a rarity even for expensive cars. It was with the 490th model that Chevrolet began to specialize in the cheapest and simplest cars that brought it worldwide fame.
In 1917, the company appeared its own engine, V-shaped 8-cylinder, but at that time it did not find sufficient demand. Dynamic, diverse and well-selling Chevrolet models brought financial success to Durant, who was able to regain control of General Motors and in 1918 joined the Chevrolet company, whoseproducts for many years have become an adornment of the production range of the corporation.
Chevrolet engineers and designers have done a lot for the development of the global automotive industry. In this department, the first car equipped with an air-cooled engine was produced in 1923.
In 1928, the "International Six" model appeared, also known as "AB". In 1929 the inline 6-cylinder engine was developed, which was produced until 1984.
The "Master" model comes out in 1933, and in 1934 the "Chevrolet" division was the first to equip its cars with an independent suspension.middle wheels, which greatly facilitated driving and reduced tire wear. During the Great Depression, the company finally overtook Ford in sales.
In 1935, the Suburban Carryall (literally “suburban carriage”) launched a new class of multi-seat universal passenger cars.
In 1949 the appearance of new models "Special" and "De Luxe" took place.
Since 1950, the company began to use automatic transmissions on its models.
In 1953, Chevrolet produced the first car of the Corvette line ("Corvette") with a bodyfiberglass, which is seen as the first attempt at a purely American sports car. Equipped with an upgraded 3.8-liter Chevrolet engine and an automatic transmission, the Corvette, however, did not find demand, but the model was saved by equipping it with a new V-8-cylinder engine and modernizing the frame in 1955. In addition, the old the automatic transmission was replaced by a mechanical one.
Since 1956 "Corvette" has become a real sports car, whose appearance is quite consistent with itsmist and whose power reaches 290 hp, by 1961 "Corvette 283" with fuel injection reached 315 hp. and accelerated from standstill to 100 km / h in just 5.5 seconds.
Since 1963, when the Corvette model was presented at car dealerships, it has become the subject of universal admiration, to some extent personifying the American style in the automotive industry in general. The body of the 1963 Corvette Sting Ray, designed by the company's design department led by William (Bill) Mitchell, gave the impression of ultra-modern super power when shortened andlightness of the base. This model was equipped with a new frame with independent rear wheel suspension and was distinguished by unique performance characteristics. It seemed that there was no limit to the power of the Chevrolet cars - by 1966 the seven-liter engine of the 427 had already reached 560 hp.
Ill-considered changes in the design of the 1968 model due to overloading with not too justified innovations led to a drop in demand, which was restored later, without regaining, unfortunately, an almost religious admiration for earlier models.
Since 1984 "Corvette" issueIt is available in coupé and convertible versions with V-8-cylinder engines.
In 1958, the new models "Biscayne", "Bel Air" and "Impala" are released.

In 1979 the company started tostart-up of front-wheel drive vehicles with transversely located power units. The first in this series was the "Sitation" model.

Blazers, which are extremely popular in our country, are also assembled in Russia, at a plant in Yelabuga. For the first time, in its present form, the Blazer was presented in Sao Paulo in 1995. In the same year it was awarded the title of "Off-road Vehicle of the Year" by the authoritative magazine "Motor Trend".
