Since the spring of 2001 in Brazil, at the new General Motors do Brasil (GMB) plant in Gravataia, the production of Celta compact cars has begun. The car belongs to size class B and is designed on a shortened platform of the 2nd generation Chevrolet Corsa (an analogue of the European Opel Corsa II), but changes were made to the design and design so that the car became cheaper, simpler and, most importantly, instead of hundreds and thousands modifications typical for such a car in Europe or America are presented in only a few dozen basic versions.

In the fall of 2003,l the model was modernized, among other things Celta received a more modern styling and interior. The modified base 1.0 L R4 8V engine develops 70 hp, and since 2004, sales of the 1.4 Energy modification with the 1.4 L R4 8V engine (85 hp) began. The car is equipped only with a mechanical 5-speed gearbox. The basic package includes an immobilizer, central locking and engine compartment protection. Body types - 3- or 5-door hatchback, modifications Life, Spirit and Super. New in 2005 - Celta Off-Road version with plastic off-road body kit, "toothy" tires and roof railse.

Over the years, Celta, which is very popular both in Brazil and in other countries, has been modernized several times, the current model has been produced since the spring of 2006. It features new front lighting, bumpers and an updated interior with improved materials. The range of engines remained unchanged - the base 1.0-liter R4 8V engine develops 70 hp. and 86 Nm, and the 1.4-liter R4 8V - 85 hp. and 116 Nm. As before, the Celta is equipped with only a manual 5-speed gearbox. Modifications -Life, Spirit and Super.
