The Chevrolet S-10 is a compact pickup truck from Chevrolet, a division of General Motors.

The first pickup truck from General Motors was badged as the Isuzu KB, marketed in 1972 as a Chevrolet SUV. In 1973, the Arab oil embargo forced GM to think about designing a compact pickup truck in their country. When creating, chassis elements from other models (mainly G-platforms) were used.

The S-series pickup was first introduced in 1982 as a version of the GMC brand called the S-15, and was later renamed the GMC Sonoma. GMC and Chevrolet models were identicalwith the exception of the radiator grille. The width of the car was similar to the previous H-platform cars.

In 1983, two 2-door closed versions were introduced: the S-10 Blazer and the S-15 Jimmy. General Motors was the second (after Jeep) to introduce such a pickup.

In 1984, reinforced models with off-road suspension were released. They were also equipped with a hydraulic clutch. In 1985, the Cavalier OHV I4 powertrain was replaced by the Pontiac Iron Duke I4. OHV engines with a volume of 2.2 liters and Isuzu with a volume of 1.9 litersra ceased to be used. In 1986, the 2.5-liter Iron Duke I4 was replaced by the 2.8-liter V6 TBI power unit. And in 1988, the most beloved by customers, the GM V6 TBI engine with a volume of 4.3 liters appears. And also this year the ABS system is installed on the car.

In March 1990, 4-door models similar to the Oldsmobile Bravada were introduced. As previously mentioned, the GMC S-15 was renamed the GMC Sonoma in 1991. In the same year, the GMC Syclone model appears. In 1992, another engine for this series appeared - the V6 Vortec W with a volume of 4.3 liters, the power of whichmade 178 hp

Also in 1992, a limited edition Sonoma GT was released. This pickup was powered by a 4.3-liter L35 V6 engine that produced 195 hp. In total, only 860 GMC Sonoma GTs were produced during the year.

For the period from 1982 to 1993. The following transmission options were used: 4-speed automatic transmission 700r4 Turbo-Hydramatic; automatic 4-speed transmission 4L60E; 5-speed manual transmission Borg Warner T5. 1993 was the final year for the first generation of S-series pickups.

In 1994, the second generation appearspickups S-10. All special models (Syclone, Typhoon, and Sonoma GT) were discontinued by that time. There were only two engines in the list used for the new generation in 1994: the Vortec 2200 I4 SFI with a volume of 2.2 liters and the Vortec 4300 CMFI V6 with a volume of 4.3 liters.

A large number of elements used in the chassis were borrowed from the first generation. The S-10 is now equipped with 8.5-inch rear differentials. However, note that for non-four-wheel drive vehicles, such differentials were used only for models with a manual transmission and a V6 engine, andfor all-wheel drive versions, they were installed as standard with any of the offered transmissions. And the transmission options themselves were only three: a 4-speed automatic transmission 4L60E and two manual transmissions NV3500 (for the V6 engine) and NV1500 (began to be used since 1996 for the I4 engine).

1994 also saw the release of an all-wheel drive version with an off-road package called the ZR2. Its features include: a higher seating position, reinforced suspension, gas shock absorbers and a Vortec 4300 V6 engine.

Unlike the first generation S-10, which used 14-inch wheels, the second generation already used 15x 6.5-inch wheels for all-wheel drive versions, and 15x7 inches for all-wheel drive versions. The Xtreme and ZQ8 models used 16-inch wheels.

The ZQ8 and Xtreme models included options such as a lower seating position (2 inches), reinforced anti-roll bars, improved steering, and Decarbon or Bilstein gas shocks. All of these options were also offered as standalone packages.improvements.

In 1996, the Vortec 4300 CMFI V6 engine was replaced by an updated version of the Vortec 4300 CSFI with a volume of 4.3 liters.

In 2001, a 4-door version of the Chevrolet S-10 Crew Cab appeared with two rows of seats.

The production of S-series pickups was discontinued in 2004.
