Dodge Neon was presented in 1993 in Frankfurt, which clearly testified to the company's desire to gain a foothold with a new car in the European market. Neon replaced the Dodge Shadow model produced since 1986 on the assembly line. The car was produced under the brands Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth, and the differences were mainly in different emblems.

By the way, under the Dodge brand they produced not only a four-door sedan Neon, but also a two-door coupe, which very often has an unusual branded "Dodge" color - two blue stripes stretch from the hood to the trunk lid.The coupe received a more powerful 4-cylinder engine with 155 hp. With it, the maximum speed of the car exceeds 200 km / h, and acceleration to "hundreds" takes 8.5 seconds. The engine is aggregated with a 5-speed manual transmission (a 3-band "automatic" is available as an option). A well-tuned suspension and precise steering gave the Neon Coupe excellent driving characteristics.

Neon was positioned as a "golf-class" car, although in its dimensions it could compete even with representatives withsegment "D" of the European classification. The car's design made an ambivalent impression on the public. Someone liked the unusual round headlights, but some considered this car too "toy". Inside, the Neon is spacious. According to American tradition, there are a lot of all kinds of holders, pockets and cup holders in the salon. The sound signal is made in the form of two small buttons at the bottom of the steering wheel, which is not very convenient in terms of ergonomics. Interior materials do not look too rich, but in general, everything is done quite well andsoundly.

Initially, there was only one 2.0-liter engine that produced either 133 hp or 150 hp. It was only in 1998 that a second 1.8-liter 116 hp engine appeared. In most cases, the Dodge Neon was equipped with an "automatic", although there are versions with a 5-speed "mechanics".

The Dodge Neon has independent front and rear suspension. This has the most beneficial effect on comfort.

The first generation Dodge Neon was produced until 1999, after which a new model was introduced. The second Neon "grew up" a little indimensions, became a little more spacious, but outwardly almost did not change. The general approach to the design and power units remained the same, but the 2-door version is no longer there - only a 4-door sedan is produced.

The Dodge Neon has earned a reputation for being a practical and comfortable car with a spacious interior that can be purchased at a very affordable price.

In 2003, the Dodge Neon underwent a restyling and received a new look: new front and rear bumpers, new optics and new wheels. Also in 2003, a sports modification of the Dodge Neon SRT-4 appeared, equipped with a newa 2.4-liter turbocharged engine with a capacity of 215 horsepower. Unlike the regular Dodge Neon, the SRT-4 is equipped with a sports suspension, four-channel ABS, a reinforced gearbox and 17-inch tires.

The 2003 Dodge Neon lineup consists of the base SE, the richer SXT, the sporty R / T and the extreme SRT-4.

The SE standard equipment does not include air conditioning, airbags and ABS, tachometer. This package includes Millennium fabric upholstery, 60/40 split folding rear seats, cassette recorder withAM / FM receiver and four speakers, small mirrors.

The SXT adds air conditioning, a six-speaker AM / FM / CD radio, power accessories, automatic trunk release, full toolbox, front passenger card reading lights, 15-inch alloy wheels, body-color bumpers and moldings. Seating in the SXT is comfortable enough, comfortable and perfectly supportive for passengers and the driver.

Both SE and SXT models are powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 133 horsepower, which aggregatesXia with a 5-speed manual transmission or 4-speed "automatic". Anti-lock braking systems and proportional control systems were optional.

The R / T is equipped with a 2.0-liter 150-horsepower Magnum engine, sports suspension, P195 / 50R16 tires, sharper steering, all-disc brakes with ABS, chrome exhaust system, redesigned front and rear bumpers, fog lights , rear spoiler and leather-trimmed steering wheel and rgear shift knob.

The SRT-4 modification has a special finish. The SRT-4 seats are reminiscent of the Dodge Viper seats with reinforced lumbar and side sections for better cornering support. The aluminum alloy pedals are like racing car pedals. The boost pressure gauge is located to the right of the instrument panel, under the torpedo lip. The SRT-4 grille is the reverse of the regular Neon grille. Behind the lower grille is an aluminum intercooler - made visible in Dodge. Functional air intakea bonnet guard, integrated fog lights and a high rear spoiler give the vehicle an aggressive look.

The long wheelbase, wide track and forward-shifted cab provide a very spacious interior and positively affect the car's driving characteristics. The seating position of the driver is high, which provides a good view. The trim of the instrument panel and doors is made of high-quality, soft-touch material. A backlight for reading cards is built into the rearview mirror. For the convenience and roominess of the rear seats, the Neon demonstratesaverage for its class. The trunk is large enough, and the rear seats folded in a 60/40 ratio make it possible to accommodate additional cargo.

In the manual transmission for the Neon models since 2003, the gear ratio has been changed to improve fuel efficiency on the highway. The automatic transmission on the 2003 models has also undergone changes - a new electronic control unit allows the engine and automatic transmission to better interact with each other.

In 2005, the courageous and affordable Dodge Neonwere taken out of production after 11 years of life. The model will give way to its successor - Dodge Caliber.
