Jaguar E-Type is a sports car stunning with its elegance and unique predatory charm. This model combines the agility of racing cars and the comfort of the famous British sedans. Designer Malcolm Sayer and Chief Engineer William Haynes began work on the model in the late 1950s. The 1958 E1A and 1960 E2A prototypes marked the beginning of the production Jaguar E-Type, which made a splash at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show. The model replaced the XK series, which has been on sale since 1948. Stylish and fast car, with chuWith its long hood lines and muscular flanks, it expressed all the splendor and optimism of early sixties Great Britain. The car not only looked great, but also combined the latest technical solutions with impressive dynamics. The E-Type produced 240 km / h (150 mph), accelerated to 100 km / h in 7 seconds and cost half the price of the most affordable Ferrari. The model was produced in two versions: a roadster and a fastback coupe, both two-seater. Success was inevitable.

Moreover, the car was popular not only in England and on the continent, but also for approx.anom. More than 60 percent of the Jaguar E-Tour was sold in the United States. The car has become an indispensable attribute of all the inhabitants of Hollywood. The firm reciprocated the buyers. Especially for the Americans, they created a version with an automatic transmission, later it was even necessary to slightly reduce the engine power (from 265 to 246 hp) in order for the model to meet the strict environmental standards of the United States.

The long hood, integrated with the front fenders, when raised, exposed the spatial structure of the engine compartment with a six-cylinder engine and an independent frontbottom suspension on aluminum wishbones. The center frame, similar in design to the Jaguar D sports car, was extremely strong. The rear independent suspension on paired coil springs and wishbones has been copied from racing cars. Its feature was the brake discs, carried to the main gear. This made it possible to reduce unsprung masses and, in turn, significantly improve the car's handling.

The interior was sporty: bucket leather seats, fullcomplete black or aluminum dashboard and wooden sports steering wheel.

In 1964, a 3.8-liter engine with 265 hp. replaced with a 4.2-liter, which provided higher torque with the same power, the gearbox became fully synchronized, new headlights and a generator were installed. Minor changes have also been made to the interior decoration.

In 1966, the two-seater models were supplemented with a 2 + 2 coupe with an increased wheelbase and the ability to install an automatic transmission.

The following changes are aboutcame out in 1968, when the headlights lost their fairings, the windshield became more vertical, and power steering and a safe energy-absorbing steering column were available as options.

The third series of Jaguar E-Tour was released in 1971. All cars (roadster, closed two-seater and 2 + 2 coupe) were produced on an extended chassis. There were few external changes - a chrome grille and four chrome tailpipes located in the center. But under the hood was now a 5.3-liter V12 engine with 314 horsepower.forces, with which the choice was put on an automatic or manual transmission. Power steering has become standard equipment.

It seemed that E-Tour was destined for eternal youth. But the crisis of the early 70s, which knocked down or shook a lot of car whales, did not spare the legendary E-Tour already during its lifetime.

In early 1975, Jaguar produced the last 49 E-Tours. All of them were black and had plaques signed by Sir William Lyons, the founder of the company - the company said goodbye to the famous epoch-makingspruce. In total, more than 72 thousand copies were produced, which is an unprecedented figure for cars of this class. The latest Jaguar E-Tour - a black roadster with a V-12 engine - has taken its rightful place in the factory museum. The model has become one of the most important milestones in the history of British sports cars. The silhouette, invented by Malcolm Sayer, continues to influence the minds of Jaguar designers to this day.
