In October 1963, at the Turin Motor Show, Lamborghini, known in Italy as a tractor manufacturer, unveiled its first Lamborghini 350 GT sports car. It was a classic two-seater coupe with a 3.5-liter V12 producing 347 hp. The maximum speed of the car reached 280 km / h, and acceleration to 100 km / h took 6.7 seconds. This is the owner of the company Ferrucho Lamborghnor (Ferruccio Lamborghini) proved that he can make sports cars no worse than Enzo Ferrari, who once undeservedly offended him.
Two years later, in 1965, one of the best models in the company's history debuted, the mid-engined Miura. In addition to an unusual layout for that time, the car was distinguished by its excellent design. Within six years, 800 Miura were sold, surpassing Ferrari in popularity. Following Miura, Lamborghini decided to create a new model for not the richest buyers.
In 1970, the company released a smaller car - "Urraco P250", with an 8-cylinder enginespruce with a working volume of 2.5 liters, central location.
The next sensation was the Countach. First shown at the 1971 Geneva Salon as a concept car by the bodybuilding firm Bertone, it was only launched in 1974 as the successor to the Miura, and money was spared: a 4-liter twelve-cylinder engine with a capacity of 365 liters .with. the central location made it possible to reach speeds of up to 300 km / h.
At that time, the so-called "family cars" of the Grand Touring class began to enjoy particular popularity. The new model was named Espada- in translation it is a matador's blade. The risk fully justified itself - the car became one of the most popular in the history of the company, its production continued until 1978. More than a thousand cars have been produced in 10 years - a record number for Lamborghini.
In March 1976, at the Geneva Motor Show, the premiere of the novelty, which was dubbed the Silhouette, took place. 3.0-liter V8 with 250hp accelerated the car to 260 km / h and allowed to gain 100 km / h in 7 seconds.
In the late 70s, Lamborghini was in crisis. In search of additional sources of funds, the Italians took up the development of an SUV for AmericaAn army. The first prototype of such a car, called the Cheetah, was presented for testing to the Pentagon in 1977. The machine was tested in the deserts of Saudi Arabia, where it showed generally good results, but for a number of reasons it was never accepted by the customer.
In 1978, as a result of a joint collaboration of Lamborghini designers with the former chief designer of the company Giampaolo Dallara, one of Lamborghini's masterpieces, the Countach LP400S, was born. The perfect Countach 5000 QV (Quattrovalvole) for the first time in the history of Lamborghini received a four-wheelfan motor. Its power reached 455 hp, however, due to the initially poor aerodynamics, 290 km / h became the limit for the Countach.
In the 80s, the Lamborghini Jalpa was born, named after the Mexican fighting bull breed. Outwardly, it resembled a refined Silhouette, but had a more powerful 3.5-liter V8, developing 255 hp. At the end of 1987, the management of Chrysler, which had acquired Lamborghini by that time, decided to discontinue production of the car.
Despite the failure with the Cheetah, the Italians did not abandon the SUV idea. In 1982, the prototype was introducedn LMA (Lamborghini Military Anteriore). Despite its impressive size, the LM002 (the serial version of the car received this designation) surpassed many of its contemporaries in dynamic performance.
Another masterpiece, Diablo, was presented to the public in 1989. The company offered Diablo in several modifications, including a roadster. In 1995 - the release of the Diablo SV hardtop and Diablo SVR modifications, finally in 1997 - the appearance of the Diablo VT modification.
The last redesign of the Countach is the 25th Anniversary Countach, released in 1989 for the 25th anniversary of the founding of the companies.... In terms of technology, it was no different from its predecessor, the changes affected only the body parts made by the designers of Lamborghini itself. In July 1990, the last Countachs were assembled. In just 16 years of production, 1,979 units were produced, making this model the best-selling model in the history of Lamborghini.
Ferrucho Lamborghini died on February 20, 1993.
On July 24, 1998, an agreement was signed to transfer the controlling stake in Lamborghini to its current owner - Audi, which in turn is a division of Volkswagen AG. <p> In addition to the closed Diablo SV and VT coupes (all-wheel drive), Lamborghini's production program remains the eccentric SV Roadster with a removable roof and rear-wheel drive only.
In 2001, the company introduced the successor to Diablo, the Murcielago. For the first time in the history of Lamborghini, a car was designed by a non-Italian. Murchielago received its rounded shapes under the skillful hand of Belgian Luc Donckerwolk, the creator of the Audi Avant and Skoda Octavia look. Compared to its predecessor, the new Lamborghini is more comfortable and spacious inside. Engine - 6,2-liter V12 with 580 hp.... The maximum speed is 330 km / h.
The Murcielago was followed by the "small" Lamborghini - the Gallardo.
The new model, codenamed L140, celebrated its world premiere at the 2003 Geneva Motor Show.
Now in the town of Sant'Agata Bolognese, where the company is located, work is in full swing on a new Diablo II model, equipped with a V12 engine (6.0 L, 660 hp), with a body made of composite materials and "guillotine" doors.
