Plymouth ("Plymouth") - one of the famous American car brands, specializing in the production of cars.

The Plymouth brand was founded by Walter Chrysler in 1928. Initially called Plymouth, it was intended to create a range of low-cost Chrysler models equipped with 4-cylinder engines and act as a competitor in the corresponding class of models of General Motors and Ford. Then the inexpensive Plymouth Four was released, which was supposed to replace the Chrysler 52 model.

In May 1929, a plant in Detroit was opened to produce cars under the Plymou brandth. Already in 1930 the "Plymouth U" model was sold at the same price as its classmates, but at an additional cost it was equipped with a radio receiver.

A new series of "RA" cars with eight body options was released in 1931, as a result of which the company consolidated its reputation as a manufacturer of modern mass cars.

In 1932 a new series "RV" was presented. In 1933, the "P" series of cars was equipped with a 6-cylinder 70 hp engine. with. and an automatic clutch that engages as soon as the driver takes his foot off the accelerator pedal.

In August 1934 he left the factory.conveyor millionth "Plymouth".

In 1942 the company introduced the "14C" model with an increased interior volume and automatic lighting on when the door was opened. Subsequently, the "15S" model appeared, which served as the basis for the creation of all machines produced up to 1949.

During the Second World War, production was directed to military needs and car production resumed in 1945.

In 1949 the company demonstrates the "P17 De Lux", "P18" and "P18 Special De Lux" models.

The commercial success that followed the Plymouth models for 20 years slowly began to fadeby the beginning of the 50s, the company remained only in fifth place in terms of sales of cars. The situation changed in 1955, when, under the leadership of Virgil Exner, a change in the style of the entire range of the company began. For the first time in the history of the brand, cars with an 8-cylinder V-shaped engine appeared.

In 1957, the super popular "Flight Sweep" series of cars was released. The company ranks third in the United States in terms of the volume of products sold.

In the 60s, models with monocoque bodies appeared in the company's range. In 1962 the last models designed by Exner appeared on the marketfor Plymout: Belvedere, Fury, Satellit. But this year has turned out to be the worst year for Plymouth: although the demand for compact cars was previously predicted, the market is, in fact, focused on large cars again. Sales of cars have failed. Fortunately, thanks to the popularity of the compact Valiant model, the company has returned to its previous level.

1964 release of the Barracuda model.

The peak of popularity of the Plymouth brand came in the late 1960s - early 1970s, when up to 700 thousand cars were produced (and sold) a year. The world oil crisis forced the production of more economical mdelhi like Volare.

In 1971, the Sport Fury appears.

In 1978, the small Horison model was released.

The start of production of the new generation of Reliant cars takes place in 1980.

In 1986, the launch of the Sandance model family.

In 1989, the Lazer sports model was released, which was developed in conjunction with Mitsubishi under the name Signum Diamond Star.

In the 90s, production began on the fastback Colt GT, front-wheel drive Acclaim LX. By the end of the 1990s, not a trace of its former glory remained, the models were once the cheapest and most massive of all, manufacturedof the Chrysler Corporation are losing their customers. As a result, in 1999 the production of Plymouth was reduced to 262.9 thousand cars and the new management of DaimlerChrysler decided to close the brand due to unprofitability.

With the end of the 2001 model year, the latest Plymouth models - the Voyager minivan, Prowler roadster and the Neon compact sedan - began to be produced under the Chrysler brand.
