The production of the full-size Plymouth Voyager minivan began in 1974. Chrysler's AB platform was located at the base of the car's structure. Voyager could have two types of execution: a regular 4-door - SWB and an extended 6-door - Grand. He carried from 12 to 15 passengers, depending on the modification. This Voyager had rear-wheel drive only, in the future the car could be both front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive. Similar cars were the Dodge Sportsman and Dodge Ram Wagon. Their production continued until 1983.

In 1984, the new S platform wasthe next generation Voyager was released, considered the first. A similar van was the Dodge Caravan; the French Renault Espace was presented in the same niche. Minibuses of the Chrysler concern, produced at the plant in Windsor (Ontario, Canada), managed to almost completely occupy this segment of the market in North America. In addition, Voyager was named one of the top ten cars in 1985 by Car and Driver magazine.

The Voyager was offered in three equipment levels: basic, SE mid, and the most expensive LE. The latter had a vinyl "wood-like" decor in the design of the body... The basic version was 5-seater, but a third row of seats could be ordered; then the car, depending on the layout of the cabin, became 7- or 8-seater. Since 1987, only 5- and 7-seater cars have remained in production. The upholstery of the seats was fabric or velor, on the LE version it was leather.

The dimensions of the base body were 4503/1829/1646 mm with a wheelbase of 2845 mm, for the Grand version, the next generation of which began to be produced since 1987, the indicators were as follows: 4874/1829/1643 mm with a base of 3025 mm. The car was equipped with a 4-cylinder gasoline enginewhether: 2.5 L (96 and 100 HP), 2.5 L Turbo (142 HP), 2.6 L Mitsubishi G54B, as well as 3 L V6 Mitsubishi 6G72 (136 and 142 HP) .) and 3.3 L V6 EGA (150 HP). The engines were aggregated with a 5-speed manual A525 or automatic transmissions: 3-speed TorqueFlite and 4-speed A604.

The second generation Plymouth Voyager was produced from 1991 to 1995 on the Chrysler AS platform. Another name for the car was Chrysler Voyager, and similar vans were Chrysler Town & Country and Dodge Caravan. Their production was located in St. Louis (Missouri) and Windsor (Ontario, Canada).

The dimensions of the SWB 3-door body were 4524/1829/1631 mm with a wheelbase of 2852 mm,for the Grand version - 4897/1829/1646 mm with a base of 3030 mm. The all-wheel drive Voyger were higher - 1674 mm for the 1991-1993 model and 1671 mm for the 1994-1995 cars. The curb weight of the Voyager SWB was 1499 kg, the Grand Voyager was 1602 kg.

Unlike the previous modification, which had a square shape, when designing the styling of the 1991 model, more attention was paid to aerodynamics. Equipment included three trim levels: the base SE, the middle LE, and the "top" LX. The LX was only available in a short wheelbase version and was marketed as a "luxury sport" version; she was distinguishedtotal gray bumpers, alloy wheels, fog lights and powerful propulsion systems.

The Plymouth Voyager van differed from the corporate "twin" of the Dodge Caravan by nameplates with the manufacturer's emblem, lighting equipment and a number of minor external details.

Petrol engines 2.5 L K i4 (96 HP), 3 L Mitsubishi 6G72 V6 (141 HP), 3.3 L EGA V6 (150 and 162 HP) and 3.8 L EGH V6 (162 hp) were located transversely in front. They were paired with a 5-speed manual transmission, a TorqueFlite 3-speed automatic transmission or an Ultradrive 4-speed automatic transmission.

The safety of the Voyager has been increased: since 1991, the vehicle has been equipped withYes, ABS, in 1992 - a child seat mounting mechanism appeared, and in 1994 - a second front airbag.

In 1996, production of the third generation Plymouth Voyager began. The Chrysler NS platform was located at the base of the structure. The van was produced in both 3 and 4-door bodies (traditionally for North American automakers, the tailgate was not taken into account). Voyager SWB dimensions - 4732/1951/1740 mm with a wheelbase of 2878 mm and a track of 1600/1626 mm, the length of the Grand is 5070 mm, and the base is 3030 mm. The curb weight is 1600 and 1669 kg, respectively.

Changes affected sliding doorsfaithfully, vinyl, "under the tree", lining on the body have disappeared, and only the basic and "average" ones remained from the complete sets.

The range of engines installed on the Voyager included 4-cylinder EDZ with a volume of 2.4 liters (152 hp, 226 Nm), as well as V6 engines: 3 L Mitsubishi 6G72 (152 hp, 239 Nm), 3.3 L EGA (158 HP, 275 Nm) and 3.8-liter EGH (166 HP, 308 Nm). The consumption of AI-92 gasoline for a car with a base 3-liter engine was 10.7 liters in the combined cycle.

The power plants were aggregated with 3-speed TorqueFlite or 4-speed 41TE automatic transmissions. Mechanical coreThe Voyager gearbox was discontinued. The front suspension consisted of a wishbone, spring-loaded struts and a transverse stabilizer, the rear - of a continuous axle beam, springs and a transverse stabilizer. Front brakes were installed ventilated discs, rear - drum.

In 1996 and 1997, the Voyager was again included in the Top 10 Car of the Year, and in 2000, production of the Plymouth Voyager, like most Plymouth models, was discontinued.
