The Saab 9-5, which appeared in 1997, changed the model with the longest index in the history of the company - 9000. The new index turned out to be "twisted" - on the car and in the booklets, the typeface in the style of "9 in the fifth degree" is used.

The car is built on the same platform as the Opel Vectra. On some nodes, it is unified with the Opel Omega. In particular, a V6 engine with "Opel" roots was used.
