Seller Description
Up for sale
is my 2001 Kawasaki KLX300R. It has 26374kms on the clock, and rego until
January 2022. I purchased this bike as a project in April last year with 25982kms,
and after completing a partial engine rebuild (all details provided below) I only
put about 400kms on the clock before purchasing a brand-new bike earlier this
year. My KLX has been barely ridden ever since, so it is time for it to go to a
new home.Whilst it
isn’t the cleanest example of an early 2000’s KLX, it is relatively tidy for
its age. Aside from the scratches and surface rust to be expected from a bike
of this age, the only major cosmetic flaws are the cracked LHS radiator cover where
the previous owner dropped it and glued it back together, and the missing LHS fork
guard. I have a new set of fork guards to provide with the sale.Looks aside,
this bike has been meticulously maintained and has had a lot of money put into
repairs and maintenance by myself and its previous owners. Please find a comprehensive
overview of the work carried out on this bike written below: (all can be proven
by receipts and/or replaced parts)
__________I purchased
this bike with a failed cam-chain tensioner (a very common issue with the
KLX250/300/650 – do a search for “KLX cam-chain tensioner failure” on
KawasakiForums, ThumperTalk or any other dirt bike forum, and you will see many
people who have been affected by it). It was also very smoky on startup, and was
difficult to start. While I had the engine top-end apart to diagnose the failed
cam-chain tensioner, I did the following work:
-
Replaced
OEM cam-chain tensioner with Krieger manual cam-chain tensioner-
Replaced
cam-chain guide with OEM part-
Replaced
piston rings-
Valve
stem seals replaced and cylinder honed by Serviced Head Exchange-
Replaced
kickstarter idler gear with OEM part (another problematic component on these
bikes)This
rebuild solved the chronic cam-chain “tick” that the bike came with, and made
starting easier and smokeless.
Prior to my
ownership, the previous owner had the following work carried out by Penrith
Pitbike: (receipts will be provided)
-
Replaced
fork seals-
Replaced
exhaust cam
Additional
maintenance performed during my ownership:
-
Rear
tyre replaced with Kenda Washougal (400km ago – like new)-
Fuel
tap seal replaced-
All
fuel lines replaced-
Indicator
flasher relay replaced__________
Lastly, aside
from those mentioned above, the only aftermarket parts to be fitted to the bike
are as follows:
-
ProTaper
Pastrana FMX gold handlebars + ProTaper grips + SPP 7/8” bar risers-
MCS
Fold-away mirrors-
Generic
indicator replacements
