TVR is an independent British car company that has been producing extremely fast cars since the late 1940s.

The history of TVR Engineering began in 1947, when a young engineer, Trevor Wilkinson, built his first two-seater light alloy car based on the chassis of the pre-war Alvis Firebird. The first TVR car on its own chassis was made in 1949. It had a cigar-shaped light alloy body and a 1172cc Ford 100E engine. cm with lateral cylinders. Two years laterWilkinson gave his small company a name derived from his own name TreVoR - "TVR Engineering".

By 1956, TVRs were already on sale in the United States, and in 1958, the Grantura began production. While fast enough and visually appealing, this model met the established standards at the time. By the mid-60s, about 100 Grantura vehicles were produced.

TVR's sporting history began in 1962, when three Grantura cars took part in the 24-hour Le Mans race.

In 1963 wouldThe next significant step forward was taken: the TVR Griffith was based on the Grantura with a modified chassis and powered by a 4.7-liter Ford V8 engine. The model is named after the American car dealer Jack Griffith, who installed a Ford engine in his TVR Grantura a year earlier. According to its characteristics, this model (certain modifications had a capacity of more than 271 hp) could easily compete with the "Jaguar" and "Ferrari" of those years. However, due to pretty youThe demand for this model left much to be desired. A total of 300 of these machines were manufactured.

In 1965, financial difficulties nearly led to the complete collapse of the company, and at the end of the year, the management of TVR passed into the hands of father and son Lilley. Arthur Lilley was the shareholder in TVR and his son Martin Lilley was the dealer. He also raced with TVR Griffith.

In November 1966, at the Turin Motor Show, the Tina 2 + 2 sports convertible was presented. The design of the car was carried out by TrEvor Fiore (Trevor Fiore). The main idea in the development of this model was to create a small, elegant sports car. However, for various reasons, the model was never put into production. The only prototype is in the possession of Gerry Marshall, a TVR fan and driver.

After the change of the company's management, the production and sales of TVR vehicles began to grow. The Grantura was replaced by the Vixen and the Griffith by the Tuscan V8. The Vixen was essentially a revamped Grantura "with a transversely located 1599 cc Ford Cortina GT engine. cm.

In 1970, TVR moved its manufacturing facilities to Bristol Avenue, where they are located to this day.

In 1972 the "M" series (after the capital letter of Martin's name) was announced, which sustained TVR's fame into the 70s. Already in 1973, the production volume was up to 10 cars per week. The "M" series cars were produced in coupe, hatchback ("Taimar"), convertible ("3000S") modifications, as well as turbo-streamlined form. And the last modificationin terms of its acceleration characteristics, it even surpassed the “Porsche 911 Turbo” with a 3-liter engine.

In 1979, the 1600M won the AV-BRSCC Prodsports series, and the 3000M won every race in which it competed, resulting in the 1980 BRDC Prodsports champion.

In 1980, the Tasmin model was developed, named after a friend of Martin Lilley, with a new chassis, body and a German 2792 cc Ford Cologne V6 engine. cm and a capacity of 160 hp. The body style of the car was designed by Oliver Winterbottom), who also created Lotus Elite and Eclat. The coupe, convertible and 2 + 2 variants were presented. Tasmins models with V6 and V8 engines have also successfully raced. However, the demand for this model turned out to be lower than expected, and clouds again thickened over TVR.

In 1982, TVR was owned and operated by Peter Wheeler, a former chemical engineer, and a year later, the new TVR 350i was presented to the public with a Rover V8 engine that produced up to 190 hp. A similar model with a 2.8 liter engine received onnaming "TVR 280i".

A new chapter in the history of "TVR" opened in 1987 with the birth of the "S" series cars. Although they looked like the M series cars, they were completely new cars. They were equipped with 2.9-liter Ford V6 engines with fuel injection. With a very low price tag for this class of cars (around £ 13,000), they almost doubled production in a year.

However, the true triumph of TVR became possible with the revival of the Griffith. In 1990, in Birmingham, for the first time, there wasA high-performance rear-wheel drive car with a Rover TVR Griffith 500 engine was installed, with a maximum speed of 269 km / h. The first cars were sold to customers in early 1992 and gained great popularity at the very first auto show. And the 1993 release of the Griffith 500 allowed the model to enter the classic sports car club. Since February 1997, TVR has been offering the Griffith 500 not only with a folding soft top, but also in a hardtop version.

Then the Chimaera and Cerbera models were released, which further consolidated the status of TVR as the most popular useda Ritanian independent car manufacturer.

The TVR Tuscan is the next step in the sporting achievement of the company. With a power of 450 hp. Weighing only 800 kg, this car dominated racing until 1996 and won worldwide recognition. The Tuscan has recently received some exterior and powertrain updates. The most powerful TVR Tuscan S has a 390-horsepower engine, which allows the car to accelerate to 300 kilometers per hour.

In the 90s, Project 12/7 was created to participate in the most prestigious races of the FIA Global GT Challenge ".

In 1997, the company announced a new TVR 7 12 model, which has been in real production since 1998.

At the 2002 British Auto Show, the British company TVR presented a new model of its sports car, the T350C. The sporty two-seater, based on the Tamora model, has impressive performance: the 3.6-liter engine of this car develops 350 hp. with a gross vehicle weight of just over 1000 kg. In just 4.4 seconds, the TVR T350C accelerates to 100 km / h, in 9 seconds it reaches a speed of 160 km / h, and its maximum speed reaches 290km / h. In general, it practically remained the same TVR with a slightly different design and changed lines, but the spirit and style remained the same.
