Honda XRV Africa Twin 750. The history:
Worthy of the myth this machine has a real heritage, it has a place in history.
The first bike in the Africa Twin story is the Honda NXR 750, a prototype and the desert racer that repeatedly won the Dakar rally in the Late 1980’s and costing 1 billon in R & D!
This was a machine specifically developed for Paris Dakar which attracted a lot of crowds in the 80’s. Light in weight (189 kg) V-twin engine with a 45 degree angle. it was the birth of the famous V- twins used in the Africa twin. With long travel suspension front and rear, with rear mono shock this bike was built for the off road adventure.

Testing the prototype, it was timed at 186 km/h on the sand, the NXR develops 74 bhp with bags of torque; from 3000 to 7000 and thus makes it easy to go quickly without shredding the tyres, the NXR is easy to ride and very predictable so true to the Honda brand.
Then Africa Twin was born... starting from the same prototype to create a machine for the general public with the appearance of the first model, the RD 03 650 in 1986. Based on the NXR concept this machine had many parts directly developed for the Desert racer. It had a single disc front brake. The quality of materials was excellent and the bike had remarkable overall reliability... bikers could already cross continents without worrying about problems along the way, because of the need for reliability in the harshest environments the bikes were kept mechanical simple: Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication! The Africa Twin follows this philosophy perfectly.
The RD 03 was followed in 1990 by the RD04, with the engine size increased to 750cc, the bike retained the steel cradle frame, long travel suspension and easy manners of the the RD03. The bike were upgraded to have twin disc brakes on the front of the bike. The bike still kept much of the pedigree of the previous models and was expensive to produce and expensive to but in its day.
In 1993 a new model was introduced that survived with few changes right through to 2003. The RD07 was a machine manufactured for the mass market and this was reflected in the success of the bike. Early models were expensive compared to bikes of that era, due in part to the quality of the materials and components originally developed for the desert racer. The RD07 and laterally RD07a stood the test of time and is without doubt are one of the best adventure bikes of all time.
Now becoming increasingly rare to find good quality low mileage models, these bikes are going up in value. So you get a reliable bike developed on a race machine concept, with few known faults; and even today 30+ year old models are still on the road providing reliable and exciting on and off road adventures. What is not to like?
